Corporate Social Responsibility > Safety

Safety

Safety management lays a fundamental ground for corporate development, while it is also an important social responsibility that the Company has to fulfill to its employees and the community it operates in. Therefore, the Company is highly concerned about the safety production management.

PictureA Safety Management Committee of the Company, with the mission of “Safety First, Prevention Top Priority and Integrated Management”, performs unified guidance, inspection, assessment and supervision, education and promotion of safe production of its subsidiaries in accordance with the Safety Act of the People’s Republic of China and the relevant safety management regulations of the HKSAR government. Through the comprehensive regulation and management of the safety management work of each coating company, employees of all levels gain heightened awareness in production safety. Hence a normalised and standardised management system of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and a corporate culture can be established.

Establishment of a Standardised HSE Management System
COSCO International always actively promotes the establishment of a normalised and standardised safety management system. In 2010, three coating manufacturing enterprises of COSCO International successfully obtained Quality Management System Certification (ISO9001), Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series Certification (OHSAS18001) and Environmental Management System Certification (ISO14001) formulated by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). Each of the coating companies was so comprehensively regulated in terms of product quality management, production environment and production procedure through planning, control, monitoring, remedial measures, auditing and evaluation activities so as to ensure all of them meet the requirements in relation to occupational health, safety and environmental protection formulated by the international professional organisation, which gave COSCO International a strong support for its establishment of a long-term effective safety management mechanism, and fully realised the Group’s commitments to its customers, employees and the environment.

相片In addition, through safety educational seminars and on-site training, employees gain heightened awareness in production safety, and their safety management skills have been improved. Through the emergency drills, employees clearly understand the contingency procedures, which strengthen their abilities in dealing with emergencies. During the past years, the Company has taken three-pronged approach, including training, emergency drills as well as supervision and checks, to avoid many potential hazards and reduce the probabilities of production accidents significantly. More importantly, a corporate culture for safety has been promoted comprehensively.
